Policy
We want Scotland's people and political leaders to recognise and value social enterprises
as high quality businesses with a difference, using their 'more than profit' ethos to meet Scotland's social needs.
We want social enterprises to form a thriving and entrepreneurial sector of the economy, successfully trading
in a range of markets and able to access the support and resources they need to compete, grow and flourish.
Key policy challenges include:
Finance - social enterprise needs new investment models tailored to key stages in their development.
Business support - social enterprises need tailored business development support that recognises the added.
Procurement - social enterprises need to compete on a level playing field for public sector contracts which recognise the added value they deliver.
Public service reform - social enterprises should be valued for their contribution to public services and given a bigger role in shaping and delivering public services.
Business growth - social enterprise needs a joined-up growth strategy to support expansion in key areas such as health, recycling and childcare.
Skills and learning - social enterprise need dedicated skills development and knowledge transfer provision to support growth.
Impact measurement - social enterprises need robust, widely accepted models of measuring their social, environmental and economic impacts.
Profile raising - social enterprise needs its profile raised with potential staff, customers and policy makers.
